Description:

The set of stacking tableware was the first of its kind, introduced in the 1960s, originally designed and produced in Milan, Italy.  The earliest ware, the Max II, featured the ill-fated open channeled handle on cups (seen on the white cream pitcher) which allowed liquid to overflow and spill when filled to the brim.  As a result, cups and mugs were redesigned to prevent overflow.

The now classic stacking tableware was eventually produced in many bright colors and received many design awards.
