Description: |
High back comb of blue marbleized celluloid (cellulose nitrate). Ornate, circular, pattern; center is reminiscent of a peacock tail. Five prongs. The comb is sewn to felt cloth. Fancy high back combs were popular between 1850 and 1920 when hairstyles were usually swept up and held in place with a combination of hair pins and decorated combs. This example is attached to the original salesman's sample cloth. Associated documentation indicates the comb was made in 1923 and sold for $1.00. |
